Maria Timeea Toma has the perfect profile for a Concentric artist.

Her works captured our attention from the very first glance. You can feel that behind every line, every shading, every shadow, there is a cry and inner turmoil. We like Timeea and want to introduce her to you.

“My most vivid childhood memories are of the nights when I would sit with my mother in the kitchen while she did her chores, and every 5 minutes, I would show her the next ‘masterpiece’ I had created.”

“High school and college, for me, were nothing but artistic blocks, limitations, constraints, and entire days of harsh self-criticism—things that led to neglect, despair, anger, and hopelessness. All the feelings I bottled up during high school and college are now coming out in the form of furious, ugly drawings. It’s as if I started drawing to provoke frustration in people with prejudices and rigid ideas.”

“Besides that, I can’t deny my sensitive side. Loneliness has always been my greatest fear, and that is reflected in everything about me, especially in my art. When I feel overwhelmed by it, I go back to being the child who used to draw in the kitchen with his mother.”

“Through my art, I want to convey to people that it is absolutely okay and normal not to always be the ‘good’ one. I want to capture the beauty behind these façades. I want to capture our essence as humans—the things we are usually taught to hide—anger, disorder, vulnerability, hysteria, despair, fear, terror. I want to tell everyone: no matter how ‘broken’ you think you are, you will never truly be alone. We are all in this together.”

“Oh, and sometimes I draw circles.”

Maria Timeea Toma is a student at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, and so far, she has participated in several exhibitions, such as “Students take over the street” at NAG and “Desemne de peste an” supported by Senso Gallery.
